Islands
Islands are most often separated from mainland infra structures. On Islands the electrical grids are often weaker and the roads do support big trucks or big cranes. Islands lack infrastructure but islands do not lack wind. On most islands the wind is strong enough to generate a substantial part of the islands energy requirement.
Today often diesel generators are used to produce electricity. Electricity generated in this way is expensive and causes pollution. Besides the purchase price for diesel there are other specific costs that have to be taken in to account. Costs for transport and storage and costs of losses, for example. On top of this diesel generators are not very efficient and will generate about 3 to 4 kWh out of one liter of diesel. As a result the price for electrical energy on islands is high, sometimes up to 80 Euro cent per kWh.
A combination of wind and diesel the answer to this problem. The diesel generators will only produce energy when there is not enough wind.
